Brunch at The Tasting Kitchen [Los Angeles]

I have a deep and abiding love for brunch. I know from reading Anthony Bourdain that cooks hate working weekend brunch, and that most of it is derivative, overpriced slop, often cobbled together from whatever’s left over from the week’s dinners. I know all that, and yet, I can’t get enough of the soft light and copious coffee and bloody marys. And hopefully, if I’ve done my research, I find a place like The Tasting Kitchen that takes brunch as seriously as I do.

Three different kinds of bloody marys, people. You have the option of having your waffles (which are paired with ridiculously most, flavorful, crunchy fried chicken) stuffed with bacon.

I went with my buddy A of party bus fame and ordered enough food for four people. And then he ordered half a grapefruit. Unironically.

The other great thing about The Tasting Kitchen? It’s right on Venice’s Abbot Kinney Boulevard, so after stuffing yourself silly you can walk it off by strolling through all of the hipstery shops, trying on overpriced leather jackets and free trade cotton scarves.

  1. I love that you had brunch upstairs; last two times I was there they said they only opened it up for evening service. Next time you go, try the Petite Mary. Best cocktail ever. The Tasting Kitchen is quite literally my favourite weekend brunch in the world, though one I had at Beagle in London came pretty close a few weekends ago: http://www.rachelphipps.com/2014/01/places-to-eat-in-london-beagle-hoxton.html Your photos are beautiful as ever, and I’m jealous that you live closer to Abbot Kinney than I do, right now!

    • How weird! I didn’t even request the upstairs room; maybe they’ve just gotten super popular for brunch so they need it for overflow?

I tried the other two bloody marys (maries?), but I’ll be sure to try the Petite next time.

      • When you do go back, can you try and wrangle the recipe for the Petite Mary for me, with the promise that it will not me shared with anyone but us two, put online, and by pointing out that I am in London now so I can’t come in and have one?! I miss them!! :D
